WHERE ARE THEY NOW? NOVEMBER 2006
Following the total sell-out of THE DREAMING at The Tonbridge Arts Festival in October, the NYMT marches on.
As usual the West End is awash with ex-NYMTers as are the TV channels and film screens. TOBY JONES, (1981-3), FOLLOWING HIS RECENTLY ACCLAIMED PERFORMANCE AS William Hogarth on Channel Four, stars as Truman Capote in the extraordinary new film THE LIFE OF TRUMAN CAPOTE – THREE TIMES TOLD. Don’t miss it.

Look out for NOAKO MORI (1990) and GLORIA ONITIRI (1999-2003) in the new production of AVENUE Q in the West End in June along with ASHLEY DAY, (1998 -2002) STUART NEIL (1998–2002) and ADAM PEARCE (2000-2002) who has just won rave reviews, at the same time. in EVITA BRAD WEBB (1998-1999) is one of the featured drummers with the wonderful BLUE MAN GROUP . WILL KEENE (1987) is enjoying deserved acclaim as T.S.Elliot in TOM AND VIV at The Alemeida. CHRIS LENNON (1990-1991) is now in the cast of BILLY ELLIOT which is choreographed by PETER DARLING (1977). RAE BAKER (1988-1991) IS IN THE CAST OF THE HUGELY SUCCESSFUL dirty dancing AND Eerry Ellis (1991) is soon to take over as Elphaba in WICKED at The Apollo Victoria which also features OLIVER TOMPSETT (1996-1997) in the cast until he moves into the cast of CHRISTMAS IN NEW YORK at The Lyric in December.
How wonderful to see JESSICA BROOKS (1998-1999) in the Donmar company of DON JUAN IN SOHO. CHARLES EDWARDS (1988-1990) having played alongside Dame Judi Dench in HAY FEVER at the Haymarket Theatre. During the summer is now filling the Criterion nightly with a brilliant comedy performance in THE THIRTY NINE STEPS.

Great to see that SHERIDAN SMITH (1994-2000) is back on the boards in THE LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS alongside JASPER BRITTON (the NYMT’s ‘father of the house – 1976-1977!!) at The Menier Chocolate Factory.

Following her magnificent production of A NIGHT AT THE CHINESE OPERA at The Royal Academy of Music, JO DAVIES (1986 -1999) has been appointed as director of AIDA at the English National Opera next year - a stupendous achievement and richly deserved.
Hampton's (Dangerous Liaisons) new adaptation of Chekov's classic is being directed by Michael Blakemore. It also stars Kate Burton and MADELEINE WORRAL. (NYMT 1993-1996). JUDE LAW (1987 -1990) is soon to star in major BBC radio play about Samuel Beckett. And his two new films, ALL THE KING’S MEN and BREAKING AND ENTERING are now on release. How good to see that Jude is the Patron of the new Young Vic, now beautifully re-designed and re-built – the theatre where the NYMT played six different productions in the 70s and 80s.
